| When whales are harpooned
it can take several hours for them to die. Some require being harpooned
a second or third time while others are shot with a rifle. Some are harpooned
and manage to get away, but they most likely end up dying a long and painful
death from their wounds. Whaling is extremely cruel and it should not be
tolerated, but somehow it is.
Many people don't even know
that whaling still exists, but unfortunately for whales it does. In fact,
it's on the verge of making a major come back for countries who are hoping
to make a profit off of these animal's pain and suffering. These countries
include Japan, Iceland, and Norway.
Endangered whales are being
targeted by countries who want to bring back commercial whaling. Japan
currently kills Minke Whales and endangered Fin Whales (along with other
species). In the 2007 whaling season, they're planning to expand their
hunt to kill (50) endangered Humpback Whales. Humpbacks are endangered
and losing (50) of them could be very disasterous to their overall population.
Still, Japan claims that they 'must be killed' as part of their 'scientific
program'. The whole world knows that this so called scientific program
is nothing but a joke, but Japan still claims that's exactly what it is..
