Humpback Whale Photos From the 2008 Whale Watching Season
Known as the "big winged Neew Englander", the Humpback Whale has the longest pectoral fins or flippers of any whale species. These are the fins that extend from the sides of the whale's body. Each flipper is approximately 1/3 of the whales body size (13-15' long) and can weigh up to a ton! They also contain the same bones that you have in your hand. They are known for their acrobatic behaviors and are commonly sought after from whale watchers. All photos were taken on the Granite State Whale Watch out of Rye, NH during the 2008 season.
