Pilot Whale
Photo Album
Though more of a rare sighting, Pilot
Whales do occasionally make their way through our waters. They normally
show up in August or September, although being wild animals they can show
up at anytime. They're called Pilot Whales because there's usually one
individual who acts as the leader of the pod and wherever it goes the rest
of the pod will follow. To date, I've seen Pilot Whales on four different
days. First in 2002 and then again in 2003. My most recent sighting was
last season, one week shy of the 5 year anniversary of my 2003 sighting.
After almost five years I was very excited to finally have the chance to
spend time with these cute and playful little whales! All photos were taken
on the Granite State Whale Watch
out of Rye, NH.
