Sei Whale
Photo Album
Towards the late summer to early
fall months, Sei Whales will showing up in Jeffrey's Ledge to take advantage
of the food in the area. By this time there's normally a good amount of
Plankton and fish available which is what these whales feed on. These whales
look very similar to juvenile Fin Whales so we'll try to get looks at the
right side of the whale's head to make sure it is indeed a Sei Whale (Fin
Whales have a white lower right jaw, Sei Whales do not). Behavior wise,
these whales are sometimes difficult to watch as they stay just below the
surface for longer periods of time. All photos were taken on the Granite
State Whale Watch out of Rye, NH.
